HOLLYWOOD SPY EXCLUSIVE SPOTLIGHT ON SCIENCE FICTION EPIC ACTION "RIDDICK" WITH VIN DIESEL, KARL URBAN, KERI HILSON, JORDI MOLA AND KATE SACKHOFF

  THIRD PART OF
 RIDDICK SAGA
The latest chapter of the ground breaking galaxy saga which started back in 2000 with sci-fi film PITCH BLACK and continued in 2004 with the visually mindblowing space opera THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, is ready to premiere September 6th. Titled simply RIDDICK, with a subtitle RULE THE DARK,  it reunites David Twohy (who wrote and directed previous two movies too) and action superstar Vin Diesel. Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous escaped convict who can see in the dark and is wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

THE STORY OF RIDDICK
YOU'RE NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK, ARE YOU?
The infamous RIDDICK has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for RIDDICK to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of RIDDICK is more personal. With time running  out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy. After the bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick they find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, RIDDICK unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

 RIDDICK TIDBITS
 KARL URBAN AND KERI HILSON
Beside Vin Diesel who again takes the role of RIDDICK that made him famous, Karl Urban also returns to the franchise portraying powerful Lord Vaako! Katee Sackhoff (from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, who has her first nude scene in the film playing one of the mercenaries), Dave Bautista and Jordi Mola (who takes the role of the main villain) are also in the cast alongside r'n'b diva Keri Hilson who plays Shirah in the film - methinks it might be here that runs through a desert in the end of the trailer below.
The film was shot on a relatively low budget of about $38 million. Previous two films earned around $160 million worldwide becoming cult sf hits in years to come. One of the locations used for the shooting was the White Desert in Farafra, Egypt. The film will be more dark like the first one was and less spectacular like the second one.

    1. the first trailer, released a month or so ago was even better, but this one is good too :) Too bad they gave us no Karl Urban in it :(

  4. Great trailer - Pitch Black was a better story but the Chronicles was visually spectacular ("you keep what you kill'!) so hopefully Riddick will successfully combine both. Can't wait! That together with 300 Rise of Empire we will certainly be entertained! Right now though I am thirsting for Season 4 of Game of Thrones after devouring Season 3 - so much cinematic goodness (from a nerdy perspective!) on our plate or in prospect. Ah, good times!

    1. I'm still in awe of CHRONICLES visuals even years after the film. That film was done with so much care for details.

I've decided to stop watching GAME OF THRONES after this season, in honour of all the good people they've killed disgustingly and in protest against the evil that they always support in the show :( And after the unnecessary scene in which they've relentlessly stabbed a pregnant lady, I just ain't watching it any more....

    2. Fair enough Dezi - can't blame you - it was pretty gross. It all comes from the books and mind of George Martin - a VERY strange bearded little man! I agree some of the gratuitous violence is too graphically portrayed - unnecessarily so - which detracts from the half dozen or so intertwining stories that have fantastic plot lines... oh well. With GoT, Spartacus, Rome and the Walking Dead etc etc, it seems such things have now become almost the norm in made-for-TV type film, at least in the US, where the money to make them comes from!

    3. but the difference between ROME, WALKING DEAD, SPARTACUS is that those shows had a point and message and essence, while GOT is just mindless torture porn in which only evil gets awarded while all goodness, hope and love get destroyed or better to say slaughtered in the most severe of ways. SPARTACUS was a story about hope and strenght and freedom, ROME was also about that and some other things, WALKING DEAD was about moral dilemmas and issues you are faced with in unbelievable situations in which you decide whether you're human or animal. GOT is all about being animal and beastly with no hope for anything human and humane.

    2. 'tis true, Blue, this is why I prefer CHRONICLES to PITCH, it's more of a space opera than a violent flick like PITCH

  9. Is it just me, or does Riddick trailer look suspiciously like Pitch Black? And I thought Riddick was the sole survivor of his planet's destruction by that Collective race?

Maybe I really need a nap now.

  12. Did you know the British prefer to write titbit? I've always found that a 'bit' curious. That said, I hope part 3 is better than part 2.

  15. From Cupid to Captain Corn-nuts... Urban is the man... he is so well diverse in his acting styles... I think this is a great staying role for Mr. VD... he should stick to what he knows and blowing things up is his strong point... now if we could only get another "XXX" sequel...

Hey what's wrong with me digging "R' Kelly"....

    Great preview!
