"WAR OF GODS" CHANGES NAME INTO "IMMORTALS" AND ADDS JOHN HURT AS ZEUS AND ISABEL LUCAS AS ATHENA

It's official - Tarsem Singh's Greek mythology epic has changed its name from "War of the Gods" to less attractive but more original "Immortals". The tale of the young warrior Theseus, who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil and the powerful elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind has also received two new cast members. Movie legend John Hurt and young beauty Isabel Lucas ("Transformers", "Daybreakers") have joined Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Kellan Lutz, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke in the movie which begun shooting few days ago in Montreal.
John Hurt will play the earthly manifestation of the god Zeus, who acts as a mentor and teacher to the young warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill) while Isabel Lucas will be Athena, the daughter of Zeus who finds her loyalty tested as the war between the gods and Titans looms.

  1. Isabel Lucas looks too young and fragile for Goddess of wisdom and war strategy. She seems more like Aphrodite than Athena.

    But, maybe Gods can look anyway they want. :)

  2. Well, as you've noticed Bels, most of the gods and humans in the movie will be young - Henry Cavill as Theseus, Kellan as young Poseidon, Isabel as young Athena... I just hope that people won't get too disappointed with CLASH OF THE TITANS (earned nice money and bad critics) and that it won't ruin all the upcoming mythology movies like IMMORTALS for example.

  3. This one has to be better than the Clash of the Titans remake!
    John Hurt as Zeus? Odd choice.

  4. I don't think that will happen Dez. Each movie should be rewarded for its own merit. Clash of the Titans made good money this weekend but it will probably not have a lasting run with movies like Date Night coming out this Friday and then the big one, Kick Ass next week in the US.

    yep, I agree that Hurt is a strange choice, since he doesn't really possess a grandiose presence but I guess Tarsem knows what he is doing. His movies have always had impeccable casting.
    Have you seen his films THE CELL and THE FALL. If not, you must!

    @Castor
    I hope so, Castor. But I've been visiting movie sites and forums and I see that most uninformed people see IMMORTALS as the copy of TITANS, even though Tarsem has been planning his movie long before they've started planning TITANS. Hence my fears. Especially since Tarsem is known as a brilliant director whose movies don't have a huge commercial success due to lack of a big studio standing behind them. Both THE CELL and THE FALL were stunning, breakthrough movies, but didn't score a huge success at the box office, although they've amazed everyone who saw them.

  6. Though I'm pretty sure that this will be much more better than "Titans" but I prefer "War of the Gods" title than just "Immortals".

  7. yep, I'm not sure why they didn't just stick to DAWN OF WAR if they had problems with WAR OF GODS. But then again, Tarsem's movies always have a short tittle :)
